Three sets were designed and printed earlier in the year but for various reasons were not released.The dates on the first day covers bear no resemblance to the actual release date. An official ceremony attended by Gaza government ministers was held for the release of all issues on 28th July and they were put on sale in the Gaza post office on Monday August 1st 2011.See pictures of the Gaza Prime Minister at the ceremony applying cancellations to the FDC's.

| LOCAL ISSUES from GAZA December 2010 |
The four sets of stamps shown below along with their respective miniature sheets and first day covers were planned early in 2010 but for various reasons were not issued until the 6th December. They were originally to be issued as postage stamps but due to Israeli objections to the theme of the stamps they were distributed to various government departments in Gaza to be used as revenue stamps. The high face values, especially the miniature sheets, would have made them unaffordable to the average citizen anyway, and they have now an additional 14% VAT added to their face values thus making them even more expensive.
The stamps are issued in sheetlets of 10 stamps. Total numbers issued are 10,000 of each set [1,000 sheets] and 5,000 miniature sheets of each set. |

Some notes about the stamps issued in Gaza during 2009

The first stamps to be issued were the se-tenant sets of three values to commemorate Jerusalem as the 2009 Capital of Arab Culture.
The stamps were printed in four blocks per sheet, and the sheets were issued in 'books'.See picture of sheet. See picture of front cover of book.
When a sheet was removed from the 'book' the left hand perforation of the two left hand blocks was left in the book - in a similar manner to a cheque stub remaining in a cheque book. This is why some blocks have only three margins.
These are now listed by Stanley Gibbons as PA 237-240 and at the time of writing this I understand that Michel are considering whether the stamps should be included in their catalogue.
The 1000 Fils stamp was the next to be issued. These were printed in sheets of nine stamps and again issued to the post office in 'books'and sheets were removed by tearing along the left hand perfs.

The 150 Fils value was released a couple of months later than the 1000 Fils stamp and was issued in sheetlets of ten stamps
Next on the scene were the FDC's for the first three values. The story of these is unclear [to me anyway!] and there was apparently some uncertainty about their release and they were ordered to be destroyed, or so I was informed.
However, just as some the Iraqi stamps ordered from Egypt were 'rescued' from the flames - so were some of these FDC's which found their way to me.
Early in 2010 the Presentation Card was issued. The total number printed was 150. These were to be presented to diplomats and officials who attended the meeting of the Arab League in Gaza, and my information is that 80 were presented as intended and only a few were bought by Israeli and Jordanian dealers.

The set of four stamps and miniature sheet were printed in Tunisia and obviously someone obtained some as pictures appeared on the internet. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to acquire any.
If anybody out there has further information about them then I'll be pleased to hear from you!

These stamps were to be found on sale in Gaza post offices during late 2008 - possibly earlier - and can still be found on sale in Khan Unis but not Gaza City [December 2009]
Printed in Egypt, the stamps are small with a printed area of 2cms X 2.5 cms, have a face value of 250 Fils, and are printed in sheets of 100.

5m. emerald green on unwatermarked paper was printed by the Postal Authority Press in Cairo.
The stamp was applied, along with Egyptian Palestine postage stamps, to letters from Gaza during 1966-67.
Funds were raised in this manner for the Palestinian cause.
The Arabic script at bottom right reads " Liberation Tax".

Until 2005 the stamps were beautifully printed in either Germany or France.The Mahmoud Darwish and the unreleased
[banned by Israel] Al Quds issue were printed in Tunisia.
Recent issues from Gaza were designed and printed in Gaza and should be regarded as 'locals' and although
so far none have been seen actually used on mail Stanley Gibbons have given them catalogue status.
The latest "Christmas for All" and "Jericho 10,000 Years" were printed in Bahrain and released in Ramallah but not Gaza.

Some notes on SG catalogue listings and information given therein..
Stamps listed below are sold in sets as shown by Michel. The European agency at the time of issue listed the sets in this manner.
Sets are offered for sale as defined in the Michel catalogue. [SG list the first sets "Flags" and "Sights of Jerusalem" as one set, and also treat the surcharged stamps as one set].
The 1995 handstamped sets as shown in SG Part 19 are not recognised by the issuing agency in Germany - indeed they were not aware of their existence as recently as 2003. A collector was kind enough to email me earlier this year [2011] to tell me that he had bought some of these handstamped overprints during a visit to Gaza and my subsequent enquiries now confirm that the hand stamps were indeed applied in the Gaza post office. Israel objected to the stamps being valued in Mils as this was the currency of Palestine before the country's occupation.
FDC's of the first 'Flags' issue have a 15th August 1994 Gaza Jericho circular date stamp, and FDC's of the first issue of Sights of Jerusalem set have FDC's cancelled on 1st September 1994.
Later FDC's with the officially surcharged 'Mils' Flag set have an oval cancel dated 10th April 1995, and the covers show the Palestinian Authority flag.
The surcharged Sights of Jerusalem FDC's also have a cancellation date of 10th April 1995 but with a circular special cancellation and an illustration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Other FDC handstamps were applied locally.
Most, but not all, FDC's have special First Day of Issue cancellations relating to the issue and some covers have illustrations. Unofficial FDC's were also printed in Gaza and can usually be recognised by the poorer quality illustrations [offset printed] on the covers which are of a lower grade of paper than used for official covers.[example]

You will notice that very few stamps, miniature sheets and FDC's are still available due to the steady demand and growing interest in Palestinian Authority issues.

The Israelis objected to the first issues of the Palestinian Authority stamps having values shown in Mils [the Palestinian currency] so the stock of stamps was overprinted.
The 'Flags' set, 'Sights of Jerusalem' and 'Gaza/Jericho Peace Agreement' miniature sheet were all overprinted.
Some of the stamps can be found with hand stamped overprints which were applied in the Gaza post office.

Fake & Bogus issues
Many bogus stamps and miniature sheets purporting to come from the Palestinian Authority can be found on internet auctions and dealer's websites.
Although some of this rubbish is sold 'innocently' - i.e. the seller has no idea that the stuff he/she is selling actually is bogus,
a UK dealer knowingly offers bogus/fake/illegal Palestine & WWF material and also states on his website that he is a member of the APS and ATA,
so collectors may be duped into thinking that everything they are being offered is genuine when much of it is actually just junk.
The rubbish is not described as fake but is mixed in with genuine material.
Many other bogus Palestinian Authority stamps are sold on Ebay by a 'Top Rated' Kowloon, Hong Kong seller with a 99.9% satisfaction record who sells
mostly fake bird stamps, and a fake Chess issue is currently offered by a Connecticut, USA seller.
Listed below is every genuine issue from the Palestinian Authority from 1994 to 2011 .
